It was an escape to South Lake Tahoe to hike Mt. Tallac with my daughter. I originally planned this hike for earlier in the week, but plans changed. This summit also qualified for my Ocean to Peak and Lake Tahoe 6 Peak Challenges!
We met at the trailhead at 745am and took right off. The parking lot was already full, and we were lucky to find a spot up close.
The weather was clear and cool with a light breeze. There were a few other hikers on the trail at the time but for the most part it we had it to ourselves on our way to the summit.
The scenery was beautiful as always and the trail was clear for the most part. We did encounter two snow patches on our way but navigated them without issue.
One of the highlights was we saw a bear running down the valley from the top of the trail where we were making our boulder assent. They were running full speed to make it down towards Cathedral Creek. I took a video of them so make sure to check it out.
We made the summit at about 1045am where we took a well-deserved break and took in the views with the others. While at the top we noticed some weather coming in from the North and I made a comment that it looks like rain. You could see Mt Rose getting hit with rain. Little did we know that the weather was heading South and would hit us while eating lunch at around 230pm with strong winds, rain, and snow flurries!
We began our descent passing many other who were coming up to enjoy the views. We arrived back at the cars at about 130pm.
In total we hiked about 10.1 miles, gained about 3383 in elevation, in about 5 hours. It was a great day to be out at Mt. Tallac with my daughter.
