What an epic hike. This was my last NE highpoint that I needed to knock off. I spent 2 nights in the park and was all set for amazing weather and an epic Knife Edge traverse. But of course, like always…rain and wind came up and the entire upper saddle was in a cloud with 50mph gusts. I let it turn me back last year, this year I was halfway up the saddle and pushed through. It was wet, cold, windy and totally worth it. I will be back next year for that Knife Edge though!
For those that ask.. I DID NOT find this more difficult that MT Washington. I found it to be quite a bit easier. Granted I always take Huntington RAvine (which is intense) and I did take the Saddle (which is the easiest trail on Katadhin) but I did not find it difficult at all. Even with the conditions. They slowed my progress, but even and almost 12mi round trip was not bad at all
