Eagerness and Nerves made sleeping the night before a bit difficult, but the two-hour drive to the trail head did allow the time for nerves to subside.
Weather forecast called for perfect sunny 60+ degree weather and we were packed and ready!!!
First peak of the 2021 Challenge and we were there for it! The time had come and we were going to make it worth every step.
While the trail offered beautiful views at every turn, we were so entranced we almost missed our turn off, by passing the small white stake that was our cue to turn to the last dreaded uphill 1.5 miles. So, we took a detour of about .5 miles before we realize, eh so we added mileage, no big deal.
We thought the views on the way up were something, but when we got to the peak, we knew we hadn't seen anything yet. Unobstructed view of the entire valley was amazing. Quite the sight to see. I could have stayed there for so much longer than the 20 minutes it took us to refuel and take pictures. However, being a popular time (9am) the crowds were coming and the space at the peak needed to be open for them to take their picutres.
An awe inspiring site to behold and a great way to start the Challenge.
