For a while I had thought it would be cool to overnight on top of Cucamonga. Furthermore, it would be really cool to do it on July 4th and see all the fireworks in the LA basin. Well this year I decided to do it. I had a new bivy bag I wanted to try out so packed it up in my day pack along with just enough stuff for an overnight and headed out. I arrived at the parking lot at about 2pm and the early morning day hikers were starting to leave so I got a choice parking spot right near the trailhead. I filled in the permit form and headed out. I took my time going up and hiked with a bunch of people who had the same idea as I did. Got to the top around 7pm which was perfect timing to find a good spot to set up camp and settle in before dark. There were a lot of people up there but it wasn't hard to find a nice spot to set up my bivy and settle in. There were some bugs around so I need to keep moving to keep ahead of them. I found a good spot to view the LA basin as it got dark and enjoyed the show. It was a amazing to see all the fireworks going off all over. I had some bars for dinner and crawled into the bivy bag to get some sleep. The morning dawned after a great night's sleep in the bivy bag and after breaking camp and having a couple more bars for breakfast I headed down. Definitely was a fun trip and worth doing. I have been up Cucamonga a couple times but this was definitely the best trip I have had.
