In 2016, I had a routine of hiking PG&E regularly, but I never ventured to conquer Black Mountain. However, this year, in January, I reignited my passion for hiking, all thanks to the encouragement and support of my friends. Together, after successfully summiting Mission Peak three times, we set our sights on more ambitious trails, including PG&E.

The journey started off smoothly, with the initial part of the trail posing no significant challenges. However, as we neared Black Mountain, the terrain became increasingly rugged and demanding. The last 2 miles, in particular, presented a formidable obstacle, testing both our physical endurance and mental fortitude.

Descending down the steep slopes was particularly arduous, and it seemed as though each step took us further away from our destination. Despite the fatigue setting in and the realization that reaching the parking lot would still require considerable effort, we pressed on.

What kept us going was the unwavering support and camaraderie within our group of six. With each member motivating and encouraging the others, we pushed through the exhaustion and finally reached the peak of Black Mountain after 2 hours and 30 minutes of relentless determination. It was not just a physical accomplishment but also a testament to the power of teamwork and perseverance in the face of adversity.

  1. Commendable Bhupinder Patni. You have been through a lot. And to turnaround from that injury to be an active hiker again. Wow!!
