We got to the trailhead Sunday 1/27/18 at about 7:30 and headed up the mountain.  It was about 45 degrees when we started, but quickly warmed to well above 50 and beyond.  A clear “Santa Ana” condition day with great views.  The trail is a climb out of the gate and levels our somewhat after about 2 miles.  The final half mile or so is VERY steep and slippery.  I'd recommend hiking poles for this part, especially on the way down.  From the summit we say Catalina and San Clement islands.  It's an amazing view from the top.  We completed the hike in 3 hours, 20 minutes round trip.  Great start to the 6 peak challenge.
