The next day, i got up before the sun to eat and pack up camp. Before I left there were already hikers coming past and I knew being a Saturday i would see more people on the trail. My legs had a chance to rest and I was feeling good. After finding the water source at Kellys camp, I was excited about bagging my second peak of the weekend and confident in my plans. The real challenge was going to be carrying my pack all the way up to Cucamonga Peak because i wanted this to be a training hike and to see what kind of pace and mileage i can handle with my new gear. Played leapfrog with some day hikers on the way from the main saddle to the other saddle. By the time i hit the switchback I was all warmed up and ready to climb. The only time it got difficult was right towards the end. The final slope to the peak seemed to take forever due to the elevation and sun beating down. Once i hit the peak, I was in or something special as the entire coastal side was covered in low level clouds giving the appearance of a cloud ocean with only neighboring peaks rising above. I could discern Gorgonio, San Jacinto, and Saddleback. Heading down I was careful to take my time as my knees were taking a beating from the 5k ft. descent while carrying the pack. I was pass by hundreds of day hikers and at time felt a bit like rush hour traffic. All in all an incredible adventure and i can't wait for the next one.
