It was a crazy busy day on a Saturday for a tough trip up to the Flatiron. For extra credit, and a little bit of quiet (and because I like to get peaks with prominence), I made a side trip over to Iron View Peak. The views of Flatiron from Iron View are obviously quite spectacular, but even better are the views of all of the rest of the surrounding area. The one downside of the Flatiron is that you only get a view back into the Phoenix valley, whereas a few more minutes of hiking affords views of the rest of the Superstitions as well as North into the Mazatzals! I highly recommend the side trip over to Iron View peak.
I also took the time to read the informational signs about the geological history of the Superstition monolith that contains The Flatiron and the story is absolutely fascinating!
