Hiked with my usual partner, my daughter Shelby! Let’s just say this was a “desperate to log a 6 pack peak” hike!! We had just returned the day before from a 3 week trip to Midwest!! No hiking let alone a “peak”! Conditions were the most extreme we have ever experienced hiking in the San Diego back country! Fog, rain, wind (a lot of wind) and cold! By the end we experienced sleet! Fog was thick in some areas, rainy at the start, winds became very strong as we climbed higher! Fog eliminated our summit view! Temperature read 34 degrees at the peak! Trail was a little muddy in some of the shady areas. Only saw one large patch of ice! Go very slow to cross! A lot of people going around! Took 5 Oaks trail back down. A few switchbacks with rocks, but very obvious why people have reported this trail more scenic!! So many Oaks! Rain had stopped within first mile of hike but returned as we finished last mile! It had gotten colder! The rain had turned to ice! My daughter and I debated what we saw she calls it “hail” I however I call it sleet! The thermometer at the start of trail read 32 degrees when we returned!! Brrr. Can’t wait to go back on a clear day! I hear the views are amazing!!
