We set out early for our hike, 5:30a we were in the car on the highway! We were ready to go! We were enjoying a nice open highway when all of a sudden, the 605 freeway was closed. Officers stopped traffic and we waited… And waited… we saw movement, it was other frustrated drivers deciding to “back up” off the “on ramps” to get off the freeway! What was going on?! Finally, the wait was over and we saw a car that ran off the embankment! We hope those who were in the car, are all right.
We reached the parking destination for Mt. Wilson Trailhead where we quickly and quietly made our way to the trail. It was time to climb! We were so glad it was foggy, and as we continued our climb we realized it wasn't going to just “burn off” we were so greatful to the cloud cover that helped keep us cool, even if it was a little humid.
At the top, we reached the cafe! What a fun surprise at the top! Delicious pastries, ice cream float, and a place to refill your water bottles! And that's not all! We were able to check out the observatory!! We walked around a bit, then it was time to start our descend. We made it to the bottom in about 3 and a half hours!
This was a truly wonderful, beautiful and enjoyable hike! Dont let extreme traffic deter you from getting started! This hike is totally worth the climb!!
