Took a jaunt up Strawberry Peak today to get into the swing of things. We arrived at the trail head around late morning. It was a bit chilly but we warmed up quickly. Once the trail turned along the south slopes of the mountains, the weather and the views were amazing! The stark beauty of the San Gabes really came out at every turn. There was some decent exposure along about the second mile of the trail, but the trail conditions were good even after the past couple weeks' rain, and it never felt unsafe. We made the peak no problem, though tonight I can feel my legs and feet. Also I have a bit of a sunburn. Hopefully all those things start to acclimatize this spring before hitting some of the bigger peaks. All in all, it was a great start to the Six Pack challenge!
