Hikers were in high spirits-big smiles and greetings of Happy New Year all through the trail today! Weather was crisp and cool, low to mid 50s, winter sun breaking through, creeks fully charged after the storms-and the scent of eucalyptus (invasive but still smells great) in the forest- it felt fresh as a new year should be. Trail was muddy in a few parts but nothing unmanageable. Summited in less than two hours-not because I’m great-but because this is a gentle  and sweet trail with moderate inclines. Mt. Umunhum reminds me to slow down and savor the hike. I enjoyed seeing my home mountain Mt. Diablo from the summit. An honor to walk in the paths of the Ohlone people.
