If I didn’t used AllTrails it would have been difficult reaching Alan Peak since its not posted throughout. The hike started along the coastline at the Valencia Peak trailhead. Everything was green with stellar weather. About two miles in into the trail you reach 3 forks with all separate trails. In order to get to Alan Peak you have to go through Oats Peak which is accessible through the Beebe Trail. At the end of this trail you merge with a larger trail that follows until Oats Peak, and from that it’s a straight hike to Alan Peak. Oats Peak is the exact halfway point to Alan Peak in terms of elevation gain and mileage. It’s also the point where you could see the transition from green grass to brown grass. Then the the last quarter of the hike before reaching Alan Peak felt like a jungle with a lot shade and trees all the while with the trail still visible. Oats Peak provided a clear 360 view of the landscape with nothing in the way, while Alan Peak had trees that blocked a portion of the view. It was a satisfying hike all around and definitely would do it again.
