Well the follow on from San Jacinto the previous day I initially headed out to Icehouse Canyon to summit both Cucamonga and Ontario Peaks. However, I left things a little late in the day and reached the trailhead by around 1300-1330. As I hit the trailhead, I was still thinking of doing both, so I raced up to the saddle. I even passed a 60 year old who said I was silly thinking I could get to even 1 summit! Joke was on him it seems.

I'll start with Icehouse Canyon, because when water is flowing through there it is so beautiful. You'd think you are a million miles away from civilization hidden in a shack up there. I'd love it up in there in winter with the wood fire going.

I got to the saddle in about an hour and opted to go to Cucamonga first, plus if you are only going to do one…Cucamonga is that one.

It was a little windy on the trail up and back in May there was some snow, not enough to bother, but a bit to think about.

The view from Cucamonga is one that always amazes me. Especially when there is low cloud covering LA. It almost gives you that feeling of peace. I'd love to camp up there someday and see the lights below.

But I seriously love hiking in the clouds.

With time against me in a push to Ontario (I did both in the snow last year) and a desire to explore a little bit more, I went onto Etiwanda Peak which if you have a spare hour and a bit, go and check it out. The views back to Cucamonga were fantastic.

Coming down around sunset meant for some beautiful views in Icehouse Canyon and really pretty colours. The sounds of the water flowing through the canyon make for a pretty phenomenal ending to a cracking afternoon.

Grab a burger and a beer at the Baldy Lodge on your way out!
