I made the mistake of arriving at 6:50am on a Saturday. There was NO parking available. I was fortunate enough to park close enough away to only add 2 miles roundtrip to the already 12-mile long hike starting at the PG&E Trail. Honestly, this hike was a slog – long with a ton of elevation gain. (Mount Umunhum gives you a better experience of the south bay. Would recommend Umunhum over this one!) However, gotta complete it for the challenge! If you do want to work hard with relatively mediocre views (compared to other Bay Area hikes) then Black Mountain via the PG&E Trail is the trail for you!
