This has been a bucket list item for a few years for me.  Camp at Gorgonio peak.  And with some favorable divine intervention, it was a great, although tiring, experience.

Trail condition wise, trail is in great condition.  Trail is easy to follow.  But be prepared for a trek.

So we started off at 5:45 from the vivian creek trailhead.  We got really, really lucky, in that it was overcast for a good portion of the hike.  We actually got some sprinkles as we were approaching high camp, with some buddies saying it was downpouring on them, and oddly, a group a few feet away didn't feel a drop.

The last 3ish miles from High Camp to the Peak just kicked our behinds.  A lot of it had to do with we had our camping gear, in addition to lots of water.  Along that ridge line was nice as the overcast came and go, and there was a good breeze all the way to the top.  We were kind of worried about it, but overnight, the breeze was only intermittent, so the peak experience was amazing.  Once the sun set, it got cold on the peak.  Probably in the 40's, and if there was wind, it would have made it colder.  Sunset on the peak was the most dissapointing, as the false peak was in the way for a true sunset.  Sunrise though was absolutely amazing.  Woke up early around 5 AM, and on the horizon was cloud cover.  So we were thinking that it was going to be ruined.  We did see the orange glow of an upcoming sunrise, and it had a faint rainbow shooting up out of it.  The treat came a few minutes later when a blood red sun popped up under the cloud cover.  It was amazing.

After watching that, we packed up and headed out early.  It was a good thing, as there was no cloud cover at all for the entire trip down.  If we had to do it again, on Sunday, I think we would have passed.  So if you are thinking of doing Gorgonio anytime soon, check the forcasts.
