We opted to forgo the boulder scramble and went a total of 9.5 miles with 3,612 feet of elevation gain. The trail was slick with the dry dirt and I recommend bringing trekking poles. We brought 3L of water each and it was barely enough. I recommend starting early and bringing sunscreen. The fire tower is closed but plenty of spots to sit. There were fresh blueberries and huckleberries along the trail. We picked a cup and a half of huckleberries.
