Finished 9 of 18 with our High Point hike on Saturday.
We camped at the Oak Groove campground and got a little bit of a later start at around 9:30. Luckily the sun was behind clouds most of the morning and there was a nice cool breeze, so what could have been a hot slug up the fire road ended up being not too bad. The flies toward the end of the trail did get pretty bad, and there were a few sections of the road where you had to keep moving to avoid being swarmed. However, at the summit it was very pleasant with a nice breeze and virtually bug free as was the entire hike down.
Also, a special thanks to the volunteer manning the fire tower for giving us some extra water. It was nice not having to ration the 1.5 litters I had left on the hike down!
