I summited Mt. Diablo yesterday! It was much hotter than I thought it would be. I did the AllTrails version counterclockwise as several commenters suggested. The Back Creek Trail was brutal uphill but would’ve been worse downhill. Juniper Trail on the way back was much more doable. It ended up being over 14 miles round trip.
It took me much longer than I thought (9 hours with all the stops), and I had heat exhaustion on the way up. I’m glad I recognized the signs (for me, nausea, weak limbs, and hardly peeing!) and was able to rest and rehydrate at the top.
This was my first time at Mt. Diablo State Park. The view from the top was very brown, but I bet it’s really nice here in spring or fall. This was my fourth peak. I’m sunburned and exhausted, but I did it!!
