Beautiful 13 mile hike up High Point!!  The weather was pretty nice. Sun was out. We did not come across a single hiker until reaching the summit. Many bugs were around throughout so we wore a head net.  Hike was tough.  We finished it in 6 hrs and 11 min.

  1. Great job!
I was tossed up between El Cajon and High Point last Fri. I decided to hike ECM and finished the SPOP challenge with Mt Woodson as one of the six. I have not hiked High Point. If you have also hiked ECM, how would your rate it against High Point in overall difficulty?

    Thanks,
    Kevin

  2. High Point was great and challenging! I would recommend hiking this trail sometime just when it’s cooler temp. We started around 730am and it was already close to 70’s and finished back to around high 80’s. Read the reviews on all trails for this one because the comments are spot on! The first 2 miles on a narrow trail hit hard in the beginning and coming back down. The trail is more on a fire service road after that until the summit. In comparison to El Cajon, i would say they are both hard equally both in distance and elevation gain. El Cajon is both ups and downs going to and coming back. High Point is all straight up going to and all down coming back. The gnats were irritating throughout the hike. I think it’s worth hiking this trail. You get a good view of the Palomar observatory too.
