Completed the final hike for the San Diego Six Pack Peak Challenge for my 55th birthday and flipped Father Time the bird!! The trail itself wasn’t too difficult, a washed out fire road for most of it (the stretch from mile 0.5 to 2.0 was my favorite: single track with lots of crunch! ), but it’s a steady incline for 6 1/2 miles to the summit (13+ miles total out and back). I read some reports that said it was “brutal”. I wouldn’t go that far, but I’m quite certain my legs are contacting a divorce attorney.
Winter is quickly approaching, it was cold! Saw some ice patches on the trail. The temp showed 42 degrees, but it felt much colder with the wind. Also, trekking poles. I’ve never considered them because I feel they’d get in the way, but I would be willing to prove myself wrong on this trail, both up and back.
P.S Who do I need to bribe to get the job of the lucky individual who gets to be in that tower all day!
