An amazing challenge that will leave you feeling so empowered. We were fortunate enough to meet one of the nice volunteers in the watch tower, who gave us a special token for making it to the top 🙂 The observatories and nearby mountains are fun to look at and there are some cool rocks and signs for taking photos. Pretty well maintained, only one small section with a little overgrowth on the Oak Grove trail. Starting early was essential, and it was still significantly hotter coming down in mid morning/early afternoon. Bring at least 3 liters of water. So many BUGS. The buggiest trail I’ve seen in a while, bring a head net. Another thing to watch out for are dirt bikes going up and down the mountain. There is only one bathroom at the beginning where you park, near the fire station, so be prepared. The elevation gain is pretty steady and nothing crazy steep. A great hike to challenge yourself.
