Hike#4: Cucamonga Peak
Back into the Cucamonga Wilderness I went! Unlike last week with the cooler temps and clouds, this week the sky was crystal clear and it was already 73 degrees when I started my journey at 5:45am. Thankfully most of this trail was shaded, but the few parts that were sun exposed got hotter and hotter as the morning went on. There were less people out than last week which allowed me to make better time up Ice House Canyon to get to the peak trail. The creek was running a little stronger after the big storm and certain parts of the trail were a little washed out, but I was still able to easily find my way.
The clear skies allowed me to see the views that I missed last week with the clouds and WOW. The views were absolutely incredible and worth the climb. I could see out into the Palm Desert and all the way out to the ocean. This peak landed me at 8,859ft after a 7 mile hike out and about 4400ft of elevation gain. The coolest part for me is I wasn’t even sore the next day or today! My body is a beast and really stepping up to the challenge. Truly proud of myself and my body and our accomplishments so far! My last two hikes are going to be my biggest physical and mental trials and I’m feeling ready! 🤘🏼😎💜
