I think we all know this is a tough hike! I was so disappointed to get to The Wall and not be able to get past it. As a solo hiker, I just wasn’t comfortable trying it on my own. Not a soul around!! I saw people all day long but not at that moment. So close and yet so far.
Unfortunately, on the way down – the hardest part of this hike – I misstepped and did a backwards summersault through a young mesquite and cholla!! Yes, I grabbed the cholla to prevent my launch into the abyss!! Yes, it saved me!! Kinda hard to hate the cactus spines that saved you from serious injury!! Best part was seeing my iPhone slip out of my pocket during said summersault and catching it mid-air!!
I don’t see my inability to reach the peak as a failure. This is a seriously tough hike that stretched my skill set. Knowing when to turn around is an important skill.
Next up….rock climbing lessons in Lone Pine, CA!!!
PS Do I get credit for my valiant effort?? Doubt I can swing another trip to PHX.

If you are able to hit this hike again if you walk about ten feet to the left of the wall (looking at it) there is a much safer and double route up. 🙂
