The trail from West Village is closed due to Skyliner lift construction, but we were able to park along the highway at the Sunrise gate and hike up from there.
There used to be a marked trail through the trees on the right of Sunrise, but it has been filled in with logs and they clearly don't want you to hike on it anymore. So we hiked up the road that follows the Marshmallow run until we caught the new trail as it intersected the run by the Avalanche junction. From here, we caught the trail for the rest of the hike to the summit.
It was a great morning to get out – the AQI in town wasn't great but it was much nicer up on Bachelor. The smoke interfered with the view a bit, but it was still a beautiful blue sky day.
On the way down we followed the Marshmallow run the whole way. I'd recommend sticking to the trail instead – the road down Marshmallow is dusty and rocky.
It takes a lot more work to hike up this peak that I'm used to skiing down, but I just love how different the mountain feels in the summer. It's a mountain with personality, for sure!
