We chose to hike this one in the opposite direction than we hiked last year. We followed the Peak Meadow Trail to the Horse Heaven Trail to the Peak Trail which took us to the peak. This seemed like a better way to go when we were hiking down it last fall. It was definitely less crowded but was mostly a steep incline without switch backs. We had brought the kids along for this hike and about half way up in the full sun we were rethinking our approach. We did persevere and made it to the top. Unfortunately the flying ants were terribly annoying at the peak and we quickly admired the view then headed down the Peak Trail to the Hang Glider Launch. We ate some snacks, watched the hang gliders, and enjoyed the view without bugs! This was the most enjoyable part of the hike. It was a sunny day with a breeze and lots of people were hang gliding. They are amazing to watch, so beautiful and graceful. Dogs are allowed on this hike and my little dog Willow was such a trouper. She never complained the entire day and posed patiently for her picture at the peak.
