We camped at East Davis Lake camp ground. Beautiful view of Maiden peak and easy access to Odell creek for great post hike soaking. Started the hike at 7am to avoid the heat of the day(would have liked to start even earlier.) Summited around 10am, hiking leisurely and taking many breaks. Lots of options to stop in the shade, as 95% of the hike is in the forest, though not super thick forest for most of it. The grade was gradual and only gets super steep at the end during the final summit push. Incredible views all around. Diamond peak dominates the view to the south, with Mt. Thielsen, Mt. Scott, Mt. Bailey and numerous lakes/ smaller peaks visible. The real view though, was to the north. Views of Mt. Jefferson all the way to Mt. Bachelor. Some of the best views from a hike I have ever had. Definitely worth the number of mosquitos we had to endure on our way up. Some snow patches near the top, nothing impassible by any means, but can make finding the trail a tad difficult in some places. We decided not to take the detour to visit Maiden lake simply due to the bugs and impending heat of the day. Odell creek was plenty good for us for a post hike cool down.
