This hike was fine. Not my favorite on the list because it’s mostly fire roads. Also, it was an incredibly hot weekend. We decided to do this one, car camp, then do Umunhum the next day. I would recommend doing that for anyone who wants a nice warm up for longer backpacking trips.

However, what I would also recommend is picking a camp spot earlier than the week before. We ended up booking a spot on Hip Camp that was not great. It was basically camping in someone’s front yard in a space that clearly had been a parking spot, and the whole thing was surrounded by poison oak. Meanwhile, the “bathroom” they advertised was a tent with a bucket right next to one of the camping spots. Also, there were chickens in the adjacent property, which means there was a rooster CONSTANTLY making noise.

Glad we were able to get them both done in one weekend, and I would do something similar next year, but I will definitely be booking a normal campsite in advance.
