One of the coolest homes I’ve ever experienced…

Getting there is fairly easy. You do have to drive through an Indian Reservation so be mindful of how you treat the area. You do need to pay for a hiking pass prior to making your trip so be prepared. Once you pass the sheriff station, you are about another 2 miles away from the trailhead.

As I was pulling into the trailhead, two dogs followed my car until I got out. I assumed they were res-dogs. I gave them a bit of my food prior to starting my hike. That made them follow me the entire way up the mountain! Not sure who they belonged to, but they were extremely obedient, friendly and loyal.

The first two miles are absolutely brutal as the grade is pretty steep. After you make it past that, the trail get pretty moderate. The fire tower at the top offers one of the most spectacular views San Diego has to offer.

This is not the peak though. The peak is on a giant boulder just several yards away. There is an aluminum ladder to help with the climb. Make sure to use the ropes provided that have been hammered onto the rock.

This hike had it all. Views, critters, and lots of adventure. The weather was mostly clear and windy. Temperature was at about high 60s to mid 70s. Not too many hikers but I managed to leave the pups with a group of hikers that foster dogs for a living. Amazing experience.

Moving time was 4 hours and 23 minutes and was completed in 5 hours.
