4 peaks down…2 to go.
2022 San Diego Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge
The highest peak in San Diego County (6,533’) resides in a private Indian reservation. The Los Coyotes Indians allow a maximum of 50 people a day to enter their reservation and hike Hot Springs Mountain.
In 1912, a fire lookout tower was built at the top and over the years has been rebuilt several times since. The current tower was built in 1942 and is close to collapsing.
The hike is about 10 miles out and back with the first two miles being a relentless climb. Sketchy final scramble and winds gusting close to 50 mpg at the top. Awesome day.
