We began our hike at a campground on the Los Coyotes Reservation. The first two miles of the hike are on a pretty steep incline. The trail during this portion of the hike is on a wide dirt road. After the first two miles, we entered a forested area. The remainder of the hike is up in the trees. This portion of the hike consists of gentle ups and downs. There were a few rocky areas. This is a very quiet trail; we did not see anyone else hiking that day. Once you reach the old lookout tower, the trail over to the actual peak is a little less straightforward. Luckily, someone had marked where to go with pink (faded) plastic ribbon tied to trees. There is a very large boulder to climb at the actual peak. One our way back down, we saw many mountain lion tracks. We also came across a crew from the reservation that was working on the trails for an upcoming running event to be held there (mid-November). Although the beginning of the hike was tough, our group absolutely loved the trail and will be hiking it again soon. The weather was perfect on the day we hiked it. It was relatively cool which was good for that first difficult climb. It was a bit windy at the top, particularly while we were spending time near the lookout tower.
