The Hot Springs Mountian is on the Los Coyotes Reservation. There is a guard gate and many other hikers stated on line to pay the $10 fee at the gate.
The trail parking lot is a ways down the dirt road, it winds a bit through the area but its a strait shot if you follow the road. Park at the bathroom parking area and the trail will be nearby.
The morning was cold and we had full cold weather gear on. After about 10 minutes we took the hats and puffer coats off. The hike is mostly exposed, and in the morning is in full sun so it warmed up quickly.
The trails and fire roads winding to the top are well marked. There is the ruins of an old fire tower with some information about the site at a point almost to the summit. At this point the trail becomes single track off the fire road and you scramble through some brush before arriving at the summit of large boulders. The summit and trial marker are located on top of the boulders accessible through a ladder and ropes to pull you up. This last bit is rather scary, but cool, and made it seem like an adventure.
