So this was my first “challenging” hike. I would say I’m a recreational hiker, and typically hike around 5 miles max. I was a little “in over my head” with this hike. I was good until about the 5 mile mark, and then slowed down quite a bit. I lost track of the trail, and followed the toll road up which added a little over a mile to the route. Coming down I was quite fatigued and it became very hot. This hike took me 8.5 hours(with breaks) and came to 15.8 miles. I will use this experience to better prepare for the next challenging hike that I complete.
