We arrived around 8:40am. Only one other car in the lot. Due to lack of signage, we’re weren’t sure if we were starting from the correct trailhead. Thank goodness for other members posts and photos! As previously described, a very technical for mile. Single track. Rocky terrain, bouldering, even a downed tree that we navigated. Once you reach the fire road, you have 4 miles of constant incline. No shade. No good place to rest. No restrooms. Although we started around 8:45, it was hot. We were prepared with plenty of hydration and sun hats but it was still really tough. The trail just kept going and going! We encountered signage that said the we were about to enter private property… enter at your own risk. Ignore the sign and keep going. We came way too far to turn back now! About a half mile from the summit we were gifted another hiker on the decline. He directed us in the right direction. There is a north summit as well as a south, apparently. Steepest park of the hike was at the top near the summit. The views were fantastic! I spied a little black Mercedes’ that someone placed on the rocks overlooking the mountains! We rested and enjoyed the views for a while before starting our descent. One of the reasons this hike is SO LONG, is because the fire road is not interesting. The views are great but with the constant incline, you’re mostly just focusing on getting there. If I do this hike again, it will be in much cooler weather.
