So there we were…trudging up the access road on our way to the trailhead and seriously considering or I should say reconsidering our trail choice for the day.
After hiking over 20 miles in a week and a half, we decided that maybe we should choose a shorter, less technical route than the loop, you know…for our legs sake.
Looking at the map that was shown to us at registration, ( one should know that said map was not topographical ) we still wanted to do a loop instead of out and back. We decided to go up Laura Cowles and down Sunset Ridge.
So ya know how I mentioned shorter and less technical… yeah…well, we got the shorter bit correct…but not the technical
My dear Laura Cowles definitely did not disappoint! She put up some pretty impressive boulder fields and rock scrambles to curb our upward progress. She is also quite beautiful and gorgeous.
We found some amazing rock formations and a couple of small caves! The beauty around every turn helped you forget just how stupid steep and technical the trail was.
The trees are so aromatic that the first thought I had was that it smells like Christmas!
We might have missed the mark on the less technical part, but honestly, I'm so thankful we took that trail. Its beauty kept us going. I can't wait to go back and climb it again. Hopefully next time we will have a view!
The Green Mountain state truly lives up to its name.
