We stayed the night in Idyllwild, it was the cutest cabin with a loft and a view. The next morning we started our hike from the Marion Mountain trail. The hike was quiet and peaceful until we got near the PCT where we started to hearing chainsaws and jackhammers. We walked upon trail renovation at it’s finest. The men and women working on the trail were hard at work, they had to have us wait until a tree was down until we could pass. The workers were very friendly and insightful. We were grateful to those working so hard, away from home and living in tents, so we can have these marvelous trails to travel on. After we passed the trail construction, we were back to our peaceful hike, hardly a soul to be seen on the trail. We made it to the summit, had lunch, hiked back down, said hello again to the trail workers and went back to the cabin. The hike took longer then planned when I looked at my GPS it had logged 18.3 miles instead of the planned 11.4 miles. Not sure if was due to a detour of the trail maintenance or if we hopped on another trail to the peak, either way we enjoyed every minute. We look forward to seeing this summit again in October, on the Cactus to Clouds route.
