It was just a little 18 mile hike at Mount Sizer today at Henry Coe St. Park to complete the Bay Area 6 Pack of Peak challenge and bag an OTP summit!
Even though it should have been a just 16 .7 miles we took a slightly extended route. In total we gained 4649 in elevation in about 7:30.
It was a beautiful day at Henry Coe State Park. It was the right time of year to make this long and strenuous hike.
The weather was cool but just warm enough and nature was green, lush , and blooming.
We had a good group of string hikers who stayed together for the most part. Some later in the hike went ahead or took different routes back to make the most of the hike.
The hardest part of the hike was the 1.3 mile climb up Hobbs Rd to Blue Ridge, You gain over 1400 in elevation up a very steep road.
We made it to the top of Sizer just after 11am and had a well deserved lunch.
We pressed on after a good 30 minute break and headed down and eventually connected with the Narrows trail which basically followed the East Fork of the Coyote Creek. The creek was flowing nicely and there were many water crossings. Bring water shoes because you WILL be getting wet. Just look for the best place to cross because the trail wonders back and fourth across the creek.
We also came across two snakes. One was just a Garter snake sunning themselves on a rock. The other was a rattler that one hiker stepped over and the rest of the group backed off quickly. You could hear the rattle shaking!
We made it to China Hole camp where we saw may campers in the water and sunbathing.
It was just another 5 miles from China Hole back to the cars. For the most part the trail was covered from the direct sunlight. It was also very lush, green, and the flowers were blooming.
We made it back to the car at about 3:45pm. I bought everyone who made it back with me a well deserved cold drink at the visitors center for making it to the end.
Thanks to all who came out to on the Mount Sizer hike! If you have any questions about my hikes feel free to message me and I’ll tell you more.
