After almost giving up on our Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge, my wife and I found ourselves driving to Lake Elsinore to the Bear Canyon Trailhead on this last day of 2021. We picked Sitton Peak to complete our challenge and it didn't disappoint. We couldn't have written a better script to complete our Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge. Sitton Peak may not have the glamour of other SoCal peaks, it still has enough punch to challenge average hikers like us. First, it's close to 10 miles round trip with more than 2000 feet of elevation gain. Add the mud and eroded tracks from the recent rain and you got a hiking challenge. Then there's the notorious 0.36-mile steep ascent before the summit (made even harder by mud and erosion from the recent SoCal winter storms). Easy is not a word to describe this hike through the Cleveland National Forest. You make it to the summit and you are rewarded with the best views this side of Southern California has to offer. Here's to 2022's Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge!
