Fantastic! Although most hikers summit Mission Peak from Ohlone College, we took the longer, more gradual ascent via the Ohlone Wilderness Trail-highly recommend! The east bay hills and tri valley are just about to explode with vibrant greens, and once at the top, the south bay opens up, all the way to the city and beyond. It's fun to try to identify all the landmarks, just like the approach into Oakland International or SFO, and our lunch time peak entertainment was supplemented by numerous hang gliders enjoying their work from home breaks. We enjoyed numerous cows, deer, and wild turkeys on the stroll, and noticed one almost ready poppy. Parking is plentiful at the trailhead, and there is an outhouse (with hand sanitizer) at both the parking lot and backpackers picnic site.
It can be quite windy at the summit, so of course be prepared with your layers.
