Conditions were not muddy.  The temperature ranged from the trail head up to the observatory. I was fine with a base and mid layer up to Manzanita Ridge, then I needed a puff jacket.  I am happy I took a poncho because it started to snow a lot at the observatory.  The hike was challenging so trekking poles are recommended.
