A perfect day to summit this peak. Crisp in the early morning but temps eventually increased to the mid 60's. Absolutely loved this hike. Starts in the green canopy of the canyon that follows a winding stream. Spotting curious deer in this area was just a an added bonus. Eventually you get to Ice House Saddle. a good spot for a snack break. The views start to open up not too far from there. Coming around a bend, you will spot Cucamonga Peak in the distance, looking down at you, daring you to approach. Soon, you will pass an old mine opening in the rocks, but no time to dilly daddle, have to get to the peak. After the Cucamonga Saddle, that's where the real work begins. Multiple switchbacks eventually lead you to the last short straight up climb (nothing daunting) to the top. That's where you'll find your big reward. It took us about 4 1/2 hrs to summit and maybe a bit more than 3 hours back to the trailhead. Without a doubt, this was my favorite hike of The Challenge.
