Great day, great trip.
we left at sunrise (6:30am) and headed along the Skyline trail, until you reach the Muir snow field. Then up and up you go.
weather was cool and comfortable to start, until the sun rounded the Eastern corner and then it got hot on the snow field.
Easy walking on the snow, we used micro spikes and crampons. Navigation was easy, not fog or clouds in the way.
lots of open crevasses up above 9,000’ – had to hop across about 10 of them – from 2” to 2’ in width. Be careful, but there was always an easier path to cross.
arrived at camp Muir around 11am – only a few people. Left the camp around noon and passed easily 100 people on the snow field and then 300-500 on the Skyline trail – very busy labour day weekend.
the glaciers were beautiful and saw a few rock falls. Beautiful flowers and lots of fun sliding tracks for the way down.
A great last hike to finish off our 6pack.
thx
