This trail featured no springs, but it is definitely hot in the summer, so bring plenty of water! Pretty much the entire trail follows an old fire road, so it's smooth sailing but extremely steep in the first two miles. The first two miles also offer little shade, but once you hit the “T” intersection with Hot Springs Road you enter a nice forest setting and the trail becomes a little less steep.
It's noteworthy that the dilapidated lookout platform is not the summit! To get to the real summit, follow the sign that says summit and the pink ribbons that are tied to various trees and scrubs. After about a quarter of a mile you will eventually come to an old aluminum ladder that leads to the real summit. To get to the concrete viewing platform you have to do a little rock climbing after that. The views are gorgeous, you can see surrounding peaks as well as Anza Borrego Desert and the Salton Sea.
