My girlfriend and I finally did our 6th peak today to complete the challenge, Mt. Wilson. We started from the Mt. Wilson Trail versus Chantry Flat to avoid any crowds and to be able to start the hike prior to 6AM. As we arrived at Mt. Wilson Park (around 5:40AM) there was only one other group of hikers/runners there getting ready for the climb. We started our ascent and kept a good pace. It was a little cold, but warmed up quickly with the rate of speed that we were climbing. We ended up removing our jackets and packed them away. We summited in about 3 hours and the only people at the top (at the time) were us and the people who were parked at Mt. Wilson Park. On the way up we only encountered one person going the opposite way. There were a few gusts of wind at the top here and there but that didn't stop us from cooking/sharing a freeze dried meal. After “refueling” we began our descent. There was quite a few people that we passed by as we were going down, many with dogs, and one inconsiderate person attempting to talk on their cell phone standing in the middle of a narrow part of the trail (who also didn't move out of the way). We did a combination of power walking/running all the way down, completing the hike in a little over 5 hours. Overall it was a challenging hike, and we did much better than last year when we hiked this trail.
