I had originally planned to do Santiago Peak to finish this year's six pack, but according to online reports the Maple Springs trailhead is either closed off completely or only accessible with all-wheel drive vehicles. I don't have an AWD vehicle, and I didn't really feel like dealing with the recreational off-road folks who also can use Santiago Peak, so I did Sitton Peak again (which coincidentally was also my finishing hike last year).
Not much to report, really. Weather was glorious, with perfect hiking temperatures. I had completely forgotten about the last super-steep third of a mile and it took me about an hour to get through that. The way down took equally long, due to lots of loose sand and gravel after the recent rains.
The Candy Store was still open when I came down, and I bought some nice homemade pies.
Finally, to top it off the moon was rising when I was driving back towards Lake Elsinore on Highway 74 and the moonlight was reflected beautifully in the lake. Perfect day.
