Too warm for Mt Saint Helena or Mt Diablo so made a leap in difficulty for cooler temps. Many other hikers also picked Tam for the day. “Lot” on Panoramic at Hwy 1 was nearly full at 8:20 AM (port-a-potty). Unknowingly it was the day before the famous Dipsea Run.) Took Dipsea to Steep Ravine. From Pantoll (water, restrooms, and parking) Alpine to Bootjack (water, restrooms, parking) for easier crossing. Matt Davis to Nora to West Point Inn (water, restrooms). Railroad Grade Fire Road to East Peak (water, restrooms, parking). Headed back on Fern Creek (reverse of AllTrails) for steeper down instead of up and back to Railroad. Hogback to Hoo Koo E Koo to Matt Davis. Matt Davis back to Hwy 1. Precarious walk on 1 to a short up and over back to parking. We took Matt Davis back thinking the switch backs and distance (1 mi longer) would be less steep than Steep Ravine. However, the switch backs are steep steps with low grad down in between. Matt Davis also has more open grasslands so it can get warm. Luckily there was a breeze. Well travelled trails, some more quiet than others, still lush with water in creeks, poison oak, cell service in and out. Trekking poles helped with high/deep steps.
