Strawberry Peak would be my second peak on the 2021 Six Pack of Peaks Challenge, and boy was it fun! It was a cool March 2nd morning as I left Red Box, 4,600’, and started along the trail. The first part of the trail is pretty easy with just gradual elevation gain until you reach Lawlor Saddle at about 5,200’ and 2.3 miles. From here, the uphill climb gets serious. You’ll gain over 1,120’ on the 1.2 mile trek to the summit. There are lots of false peaks, as you meander and scramble your way to the top. The views from the 6,164’ summit are beautiful in all directions. There were only about 4-5 people on the summit, probably a lot for a Tuesday, making the time wonderful. Take your time on the downhill parts and enjoy the views. When I got back to Lawlor Saddle, I decided to summit Mount Lawlor. That is a fun hike with some scrambling as well. So if you have some extra in the tank, definitely go for Mount Lawlor. All in all, this is an awesome hike!
