Because it is summer we started at 5:30 to try and avoid the heat. As it turns out it was a perfect day and the temps never got too high. There was a breeze and it was gorgeous. Once we got to the top some clouds came in but nothing to cause a storm worry.
South Fork is a fantastic trail to do this hike from. It well maintained and a gradual climb to the top. You never feel like you are going straight up like on Vivian Creek 😂. There are a few fallen trees you have to climb over but nothing major. I’m 5’2” and had no problems. Now on the way back when you are tired is another story. Haha it’s honestly not an issue.
A few small patches of snow for your viewing pleasure but nothing you walk through
We saw bugs on our way down but they left us alone so I would say they were not a problem.
I highly recommend this hike and this route. Our only issue is 20 miles is a lot. And by the last 3 or 4 we were fried. Even tho it’s not “hard” (relative to the other routes!) our bodies and minds were over it.
