There were loads of ticks this time of year there.
We did this hike as a C2C. We started at the lowest TH – Lookout Mountain Trail which starts down off the main road by the restrooms. We parked a secondary car near the Independence Mine TH. To get up that road a vehicle with higher clearance is needed, any SUV should be fine but a car may not be.
It was absolutely beautiful. Since most people start at a higher TH we had most of the trail to ourselves. It is not a hard trail by any means, just long and not a ton of views. I think the coolest thing about this trail is the chance to see wild horses. We saw one the morning of the hike and several people in my group saw them the evening before as well. We also checked out the Independence Mine after we finished the Lookout Mountain hike. It was fairly cool.
This trail is also used for mountain bikes so be cautious. We didn't see any until we got up higher, however we did start fairly early. Would hands down do this hike again.
