Meet up with Six-Pack Peak Challengers Vivian, Megan, and Mike. We wanted to do this in a horseshoe, so we left my car at Redbox Picnic trailhead and drove with the group up to the Colby Trailhead. It was a 6:11am start. I prepared for this with long pants, rollup long sleeve shirt and gloves; All 3 were needed. The hike up was nice – you just have to stay away from the Yucca Plants (you will get poked and bleed no matter what, just watch for them). After the water tank and at the base of the first rock climb you just need to find the markings on the rocks for your way up. We had the help of a hiker who had done this hike before (which helped get us started in the right direction). We stayed right with 3 points of contact at all times. After a walking a short distance the summit comes into view. You have to go down a small rock ravine then backup to start the final push. There is painted arrows on some rocks to help you with directions, it was mostly a zig zag rock climb for about 400ft to the top. The 3.22mile hike to the summit took us 3 hours and 45min. The views were awesome from this peak. After some rest, food and photos, we started down Redbox Canyon trail to the Picnic area. This 3.5 miles took us 1 hour and 45min. Total Distance 6.74 miles with moving time of 5 hours 34 minutes. While rock climbing was different, it was both challenging and rewarding and a great alternate peak to the Six-Pack of Peaks.
